gong xi fa cai

It’s Chinese New Year. Everyone born with Zhonghua minzu or Chinese nationality simply said celebrates today’s wide-reaching occasion.

I remember a colleague butting in our boss’ inquiry of who among the team has a Chinese blood, for the person to be chased for free tikoy (sticky rice usually served during the fete) today. Trifling, she pointed at me cheering in wide grin my Chinese name, Dai Ning Li.

Yes I am till today a frustrated Chinese partisan. Loving most of all Mandarin makes me want to learn more about the language, to speak fluently and to understand every conversation encounters. In fact I finished a short course for Basic Mandarin at Confucius Institute just last year, of which I still wish to continue studying in the near future. Unplanned, I have been into series of relationships with Chinese men (who unfortunately were both jerks by the way!).

Yes I am a pure Filipino but in my heart, a part of me craves to learn more about their culture, that longing to at least be knowledgeable of their customs
excluding their religion. Proud to having just this kind of attention to the Chinese mores, greeting everyone “Xinnian Kuaile!” gives me equal excitement as if year 2011 started at day one again! May all find real happiness amidst life’s difficulties and downsides from this day and the months onward.

GONG XI FA CAI, readers!!!

Gong Xi Fa Cai! A little "percentage" of me is Chinese...hehehe. I'm the 5th generation, I guess...so there's no more purity of the Chinese blood. The Chinese roots can be seen from the slanting eyes and fair skin of other family members. Definitely, not me! I'm the ugly duckling. Don't even know how to speak Chinese, neither do we celebrate CNY. Mixed marriages taken place in the family, so everything gets mess-up!

Nice post, Ning. I'm cracking up reading some comments from those who were with you in your attempt to prick "somebody's" butt. Good luck! LOL
