mom's golden birthday: the readying stage

I love birthdays and the coming New Year is not just an ordinary event – it will be my Mom’s golden birthday celebration! She’s turning fifty and this has to be something memorable and worth looking back on with gratefulness in her heart.

Venue. It will be easier since January 1 falls on a Sunday. Everyone is in the church and I will have a bonus list of people not needing further invite anymore and a good setting altogether.

Cake. Because I know the coming holiday season will make the suppliers very busy, I made it sure to post my order long before the peak season started. This time I chose TODS to design my Mom’s cake centerpiece. In my search for the best vendor to offer me a good price along with a very nice creation, I chose Fleur Akim Nadua to make the cake I (partly) designed myself.

Food. We will start the event in the afternoon before the preaching. Meaning, a simple merienda will do ─ things that my Mom surely loves to see on the table: pancit, kakanin, cream puff cakes and the like. Someone is already tapped to assist me on this so I’m confident that every stomach will be happy.

Program. This will not be a primly serious event so simple messages for my Mom will do. I don’t want to make her cry either because I know she’s like me who breaks in tears easily. I want to see her laugh and reminisce sweet memories of the 50 years of her life on earth.

Giveaways. I chose Luna MoonPrinting to make me 50 pieces of round fan personalized with my Mom’s cake centerpiece. My frustration to art regenerates when I know there is no one to do this for me. Thanks to the world wide web that I was able to come up with this design, and thanks to my friend Meilin who helped me cartoonize my Mom’s face.

There’s still a few more days before 2011 bids goodbye, so I still have time to polish things up. Oh by the way, gift? I have one thing in mind and will post it here when all else is final.
