2012: I ♥ New Year

Since Mom was celebrating her golden year on this same date, I promised myself that this got to be something very remarkable… something we, as a family, have never done before. I kept our schedule busy and our stomach, well satisfied.

December 31, 5PM. After a very thorough deliberation, we decided to spend the last few hours of 2011 at Yakimix Sushi & Smokeless Grill. Since it was year-end, all agreed to abuse our diet for once! The restaurant, offering an eat-all-we-can-buffet, enticed us to taste as much food as we wanted, from sushi’s to salads to yang chow rice, cooked victuals and the ready to grill meats. We literally pampered our stomachs, and it was really, really satisfying!

December 31, Media Noche. Despite eating like monsters at Yakimix, Mom still prepared something for us to share on New Year’s Eve. She cooked some rice cakes, Dad’s favorite. But the mango bravo ice cream cake we bought from Conti’s underscored the rest on the table! Although it was partly melted, because of the very long journey I took to bring it home all the way from my workplace, still everyone was very much excited. The effort to keep the cake’s form was matchless and stressful! In fact, I needed to send it to my sister’s house to be refrigerated. Nevertheless, it paid off the entire endeavor to save it from melting until midnight. Yummy!

January 1, 2012. Everything was kept secret. No trace was left in every plan we made. After the church service in the afternoon, our Pastor himself led the singing of her birthday song. Off to the room I entered, carrying her extra beautiful cake, made by a new-found patissier friend, Fleur. Inspired with a shoe, signifying the other pair who leads us to the right path of living as we grow up, the cake literally fashioned my Mom’s person. It was very lovely! I succeeded in wanting to make her cry that day. Although her eyes welled in tears, we all knew her happiness was beyond measure.

I love celebrating New Year because it gives me another starting point to continue my goals and set new targets for the whole year. More so, it opens a new door to make use of this life God has given us to spend for His glory. At the very last second, I wished to humbly embrace the Lord for all the blessings He willingly bestowed.
