If there’s one thing that I can’t be proud of myself, it’s that being less confident about my talents. I can sing but I fear to be out of tune so I just keep silent. I can write but I fear the critics so I simply want to be a ghostwriter. By experience, ironically, I have gained recognition for both singing and writing.
I discreetly joined a company-sponsored slogan competition on purpose (with another staff as official candidate) because I fear defeat ─ I refuse to be published when I fail to win the competition. Simply put, this pessimist spirit ate me up! During the event, I was surprised that my entry was actually chosen. They called the person to whom I asked my entry to be named under. They recognized him, they applauded him, they cheered on his victory… all the things which could have been given to me if only I had the courage to unveil myself.
There is no one else who could know me better but myself. From that time on, I learned to reward myself with confidence. I have God-given talents that would label me as someone who could contribute something to this world. Self-confidence ─ when others do have over what is required, I painfully learned to have a little for myself.
