This month is the time spent to appraise employees’ technical performance in all departments in the office. I came to check on the GM’s emailed message to everyone, and I quote:
“I can’t forget what my American friend told me after asking why it seems like most of the Filipinos are not proud of their accomplishments, when they are very good and hardworking. Something they must really be proud of. I went back inquiring what made him utter that. Year-end review is hard, but it’s much harder whenever he’s evaluating the support lead from the Philippines ─ that if he would base the rating on their self-evaluation it seems like he’s merely overrating them.”
I felt the urge inside as she ended her remarks with, “In the self evaluation, you must fly your own kite because your accomplishments are your own pride. BE PROUD and stand tall.”
The American observer is so true! We, Filipinos, should NOT be afraid to showcase our accomplishments. We must be proud! For once, we must unmask that bashful spirit that hurdles us to uphold our competence.
