tears for a dog

This morning when we were waiting for the carpool to send us to office, there came a young man with his dog lying unconsciously on his shoulders. From across the street I could tell that the pet was gravely injured and we suspected it either being hit by a car or something immense had fallen off it. The poor dog, which looked like a beautiful Siberian husky, appeared to be out cold while some reddish drips excreted from its opened mouth. We could see it shake in short intervals. I felt a cutting pain when I saw its master already crying. The man, who seemed to be my age, sought help from a nearby pet clinic which unfortunately was still close at that time. On his face then painted total hopelessness. With his piteous dog, he seated on an adjacent gutter and rested a few minutes while another male companion assisted to get him a cab.

My mind wandered while on board the car. Hospitals with 24-hour service are only for humans so where on earth were that man and his dog heading to? To see a real man cry over a dying pet astounded me. Perhaps it is his best friend. Perhaps it steals his food while not on guard, pees anywhere it wants, grossly poops anywhere it feels like, but despite of it all still loves and cares for his dog. How I wish the two will have more time to spend together. I hope that beautiful dog lives.
