a child of mine

The unbridled dengue fever outbreak has killed so many victims, young and old. It bruised my heart when Mom told me that a friend of hers lost their child of this disease early this month. I have not experienced the agonizing days of missing a family member who is not anymore coming back. But then the lives around me perfectly describe how awful and breaking an event this could ever be.

She printed me an email message sent by that mother who just lost her daughter and I can see how painful her plight really is. But the courage this woman has is truly heartwarming! Despite the hurt, she sees things at a perspective that surely makes God smile back at her while carrying the child in His arms now.

“Thank you for the sympathy and support you have given during the time of our loss, indeed it was very hard and I cannot explain what we've been going thru. Simple mind like mine cannot fathom why it happened to my very precious and young daughter. Questions linger on my mind with so much pain. And as much I would like to ask God why, yet it reminds me of His words in Isaiah 55:9, As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

So now I entrust to Him everything, every pain, every sorrow, tears and longing. I keep my faith in Him to help us surpass this deep sadness.

Let me share this to you.”

A Child Of Mine
by Edgar Albert Guest, 1930

I will lend you for a little time, a child of mine, He said.
For you to love while she lives and mourn for when she's dead.
It may be six or seven years, or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call her back, take care of her for Me?

She'll bring her charms to gladden you, and should her stay be brief…
You'll have her lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught down there, I want this child to learn.

I've looked the wide world over in search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give her all your love, nor think the labour vain.
Nor hate me when I come to take her home again?

I fancied that I heard them say, 'Dear Lord, Thy will be done!'
For all the joys Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter her with tenderness, we'll love her while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.

But should the angels call for her, much sooner than we've planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.

this is sad... yet inspiring about how such a mother handles the situation. May the Lord strengthen her....

Yes, in her weakness she found strength in the Lord.
