Perhaps many will be surprised to know that I have never been a bridesmaid or a flower girl. I used to attend wedding ceremonies either to sing, be the emcee or usher the guests along at the reception. I have not dressed like a promising princess and walk down the aisle before the bride takes her catwalk with all the lovely girls in the entourage. I have not been but I would have though, for the very first time, if only my friend’s wedding in December wasn’t called off.
When our company’s Christmas Party was announced yesterday, I called up the groom ─ my friend, to confirm their wedding’s official date so I can book for an urgent flight back to Manila afterwards to attend the said party. He never said a word. Instead, I received personal message from his fiancĂ© that reads: “We’re very sorry, Ning Li, but the wedding is off.”

I was stuck. I was even unsure if I got all the information correctly on her letter. What registered first in my mind was my shattered dream to be a bridesmaid on one of my closest male friends’ wedding. While they were both busy arranging for that big day, I was at my own pace, preparing myself physically for the event ─ I even chose not to cut my hair short so the stylist would have the liberty to design my hairdo! Every night I was quietly musing on being a bridesmaid: how I would look while on my gown, who among the girls would look best while on it, who will be my escort, what accessories to buy to enhance my stance? All these and more. Not to mention I was so excited about the venue too, in Bicol. Although I have been to the place, I still looked forward to exploring the sceneries around and the pre-wedding days would have been a perfect schedule for it!
They two have the most broken dream, I must say. And by the way, as far as I understood the bride-to-be’s story, it was clear that the two are still together. Maybe December isn’t the right moment for them to get married, or maybe it’s not yet time for me to be a bridesmaid. :(

So sorry to hear it, Ning. But I'm sure one day you'll be the bridesmaid of some other friends. The day will come when you'll be like a princess. :)
I know, thanks Mommy! Perhaps some other perfect time will come.
