As I hear him recount the hurt he is going through,
there cut similar pain in my heart.

that's a bit odd called "one-sided love affair"... a merely affair that wouldn't last that far...
God is love. Once partners commit themselves to be bonded in a relationship, they should always put God in their hearts without entertaining unwanted feelings.
Never say... "... it depends" cause Love is unconditional.
