Cagayan Chronicles: Anguib Beach

Days before our Cagayan trip, I made a teaser involving Palaui in our itinerary. I got a couple of “likes” in Facebook and some even shared their well wishes for this upcoming adventure. Much to my disappointment, we weren’t able to cross the island due to the untoward weather condition that day. The skies were dark and from the sound of the angry waves, we could tell that forcing ourselves to go there would be a bad idea.

On our last day at Avalon, I recalled how wonderful our experience was at Anguib Beach instead. We didn’t mind the pouring rain all throughout the day. Immediately upon reaching the place, everyone prepared to swim. Since with me were two male colleagues and a family of two children, I opted to wear wet suits just so to refrain from revealing as much of my body. I wanted to be comfortable while enjoying the waters without having to worry how the people around would look at me.

The beach was a sight of how great and creative God is! I have never gone to popular beaches like Boracay but from merely staring at the perfect view in front of me, I would rate Anguib Beach as the best coastline in the Philippines. The blue green seabed, the graceful waves, and the fine sand surrounding us made it so difficult to stop adoring nature. Scenic spots like these are oftentimes duplicated in canvas posters and post cards. Just imagine how thankful I must be for being there geographically. I was, in a literal sense, at the peak of our country!

As we ducked ourselves in the sea, there I remembered how similar that scenery is to the place where I was raised. Although what we have in Leyte was rocky shore, the years I spent in our humble abode near the waters were incomparable. The sea and its song have sentimental value to me so whenever I get close to the place, the good of yesteryears flashes in my memory.

Though I was unable to see Palaui as planned, our visit to Anguib Beach overlaid that missed tour. I can always go back anyway. The place made me more thankful to God for revealing us such wonderful creation. Truly it’s a place worth visiting again!
