17/20 Challenge: Thou shall NOT sleep!

I remember punching in my finger at the biometrics by 11pm before heading home that day. Exhausted and all that, I dozed off right after paying the shuttle fare to the driver. Considering it’s late and many were already home, it took a while before the car seats were fully occupied. I was clueless how long did it take before we left the terminal. My tired body, soul and mind couldn’t be forced to stay awake while on board the public vehicle, until an instant invisible snap awakened me. That time, I was already some kilometers “way past” from where I should get off. Terrible! All I could paint in my mind was that place was unknown and I was alone in the car with the chauffer asking me where I was actually heading to. My heart was pumping like crazy that time. What if this driver did me harm? What if my things got nabbed while sleeping? What if someone else played prank on my innocence while asleep?

Upon deciding to be an accountant, I embraced all the possible circumstance associated every month-end periods when financial reports are required left and right ─ like having to skip meals, going home late and still coming to office early without further excuses. I did all that and tried my best to simply close my eyes and work as usual. Little did I know that by merely neglecting to take some time to rest, I am actually putting myself at risk! Lesson learned. More than just having to control sleeping while on board a utility vehicle, I should care more about myself by taking a break and not abuse the strength I have.
