10/20 Challenge: It's I Who Made the Flood

When it rains, it floods. That is the rule of thumb especially here in our place. Too often we ─ including myself ─ blame the denuded forest and even the government for having to endure the miry flood for days inside our own houses.

Let me take you closely to real scenario. I ignore it when I am at the park and see small candy wrappers littered on the ground. While on board the car, sometimes I just let my sisters toss their bubble gums off the road. On the ditches flow different plastics and other trash that won’t disappear unless you pick up and dispose properly. Simply put, I don’t care about it because all I know someone else is responsible to keep cleanliness at public places. Until the flood came. Until the waters entered houses upon houses during the whole week round of torrential rain.

While complaining silently, I recalled how rude I became towards the environment. I should have taken the small step to reduce the risk of flooding. I should have cared more and I should have taken the responsibility to keep my surroundings free from improper waste disposal. After all, this world is where my home is and parallel to cleanliness is protecting my family’s health.
